7-2 What is humidity?
SWBAT: Explain how we measure the amount of water vapor in the air.
Capacity - amount of material something can hold
Saturated - filled to capacity
Specific humidity -actual amount of water in the air
• The amount of water vapor in a particular parcel of air is its humidity; the more water vapor is in the air, the higher the humidity.
• Air’s capacity for holding water vapor changes with its temperature; as the temperature of the air goes down, its capacity for holding water vapor also goes down.
• Air is saturated, or filled to capacity, when it holds all the water vapor it can at a given temperature.
